When Positive Thinking Turns Negative

Nothing attracts derision more in the self-development circles than 'Positive Thinking.' The cynics among us are quick to point out that just believing in something doesn't make it true, and even the most optimistic will concede that they don't always take Positive Action based on their Positive Thinking.

The underlying reason positive thinking doesn't work, is because positive thoughts don't always shine through as core beliefs. That is, underneath the world facing exterior of positive thoughts and affirmations, the real beliefs are a swirling cesspool of negativity. Even one persistent negative thought is enough to disrupt the congruency with which your positive thoughts affect your behaviour.

Positive Thinking never achieved anything on it's own anyway. Positive Action is what is required to make a difference, and you can't have Positive Action without Positive Thinking. It's at the point of Positive Action that Positive Thinking starts to falter.

The action exposes the negative belief. Taking action forces you to swim through the swirling cesspool. So Positive Thinking only becomes effective when you also get rid of all your conflicting beliefs and negative emotions. You must drain the cesspool, at least until you can comfortably wade through it.

If you can totally focus on your goal and your positive thoughts, it is possible to battle through all your negative beliefs. This is how most people live their lives. But it's REALLY hard work! That's because negative beliefs are really negative thoughts attached to negative feelings. So when you push through the belief, you take action that conflicts with the thought, and that brings up the feeling. Working through things like this because incredibly draining, and the negative feelings don't tend to really change, so they are there next time you do the same thing.

If, when you take action, you look for the negative feelings that come up and use the miriad twchniques of NLP, Hypnotherapy and Time Line Therapy™, the negative thoughts vanish. You realise that the thoughts didn't come from the reality of the situation, they were just your mind's way of rationalising the feeling.

When you take the time to identify and extinguish all the negative thoughts, feelings and beliefs that conflict with your Positive Thinking, holding onto the positive worldview becomes effortless, and taking Positive Action - the real key to success in anything - becomes automatic.

What is Hypnotherapy?

First we'll start out with...

What is Hypnosis?

Healing while the subject, or patient is in a trance state, or an altered state of awareness, is among the oldest phenomena known to man and is found, in one form or another, in virtually every culture throughout the world. It could also be legitimately described as the original psychological therapy and somewhat more contentiously, as the basis for many of the more recent styles of psychological intervention.

The term "hypnosis" comes from the Greek "hypnos," meaning "sleep." Although such altered states have been known for thousands of years "hypnosis" was only coined circa 1840 by Dr James Braid, a Scottish physician and remains a somewhat less than accurate description of the experience, as the hypnotic state is, in most respects, entirely unlike sleep.

Currently, the phenomenon of hypnosis cannot be conclusively defined. Perhaps a reasonable interim definition might be that: Hypnosis is a state of mind, enhanced by (although not exclusively) mental and physical relaxation, in which our subconscious is able to communicate with our conscious mind. It may be better to define "hypnosis" by what it does rather than what it is and in this regard, it is widely accepted as a most excellent method by which we may access our inner potential. The state of mind referred to may be brought about either by oneself, unaided (self-hypnosis) or with the help of another person. If this other person is a trained professional, who utilises the resultant state of mind to encourage beneficial change to occur, the process is referred to as "Hypnotherapy".
